There are plenty of ingredients that state that they can increase the testosterone levels of men, or enhance their erection hardness, or perhaps increase women’s libido. Among the ingredients mixed up in those claims is that of the amino acid L-Citrulline Malate.

Does this ingredient have the Right to be held in such high esteem similar to that of Zinc, when you’re considering a testosterone booster ingredient? Well, let’s examine what this ingredient is about, why it’s added to testosterone boosters and what benefits it provides…

What Is L-Citrulline Malate?

L-Citrulline Malate

The molecular structure of L-Citrulline Malate

The first thing you need to consider when taking any supplement is to find out what it actually is and where it comes from? Is it natural, or has it been created somewhere in a laboratory?

You’ll be pleased to know that L-citrulline is a non-essential amino acid and is derived from your body naturally, once the kidney’s convert it from another amino-acid, called L-arginine and a chemical called nitric oxide.

L-citrulline, L-arginine and nitric oxide are all compounds that are beneficial to your heart and blood transportation. Consequently, they may also be beneficial to your overall immune system.

What Are The Benefits and Uses Of Using L-Citrulline Malate?

Because of L-citrulline has an ability to increase nitric oxide into the bloodstream you will find that L-citrulline has been associated with treatments for people suffering from prehypertension, or options to help reduce blood pressure in patients.

Increasing nitric oxide will allow the arteries to relax and increase the flow of blood within them, to all parts of the body. From a supplement perspective, you may find that L-citrulline has been stated to help men with mild-to-moderate levels of erectile dysfunction (ED). However, scientists have stated that L-citrulline will not work as well as drugs that have been solely manufactured oppose erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra.

It is the increase in blood flow and artery dilation that comes with supplementation in L-citrulline that is the attractive attribute that sports supplement companies are interested in utilising. You will find that L-citrulline has been incorporated into many a pre-workout supplement over the past two decades.

Their argument for its inclusion in their pre-workout range of supplements is due to the fact of the increased blood flow and arterial dilation.

It Will It Increase Your Athletic Performance

Not surprisingly, there are plenty of trials showing that supplementation of L-Citrulline has helped athletes increase their times and recovery in several sports. There have been notable trials showing this:

Case Study 1

A study was conducted on the enhancements of the anaerobic performance of male flat barbell bench press and the ability of Citrulline to mitigate the effects of soreness post workout. The results were conclusive is suggesting that supplementation of L-Citrulline can reduce soreness in athletes and therefore reduce the recovery times athletes need to perform again.

Case Study 2

This study showed that men who took part in cycling time trials performed better when they supplemented with L-Citrulline (2.4g/day) for 8 days and found that at the end of the trial those that consumed L-Citrulline performed 1.5% better than those who consumed a placebo.

L-Citrulline Malate Side Effects

L-Citrulline is entirely safe to be consumed by anyone unless you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as there is not enough scientific information available to know if it is safe to consume when breastfeeding or pregnant.

Can L-Citrulline Increase Testosterone Levels In Men?

When you’re in your early 20s you’ll notice that erections are NOT a hard thing to come by, in fact your day will be filled with a lot of random erections, perhaps you will have smelted a freshly showered attractive woman and just like magic a boner, or you like the look of your lecturer and wham another boner. These hardenings might be initially associated with high natural levels of testosterone at a young age and any future hardenings will also be associated with high levels of testosterone, but that might not be the case if you are taking a natural ingredient that helps with erections.

That’s primarily all L-Citrulline Malate does help with blood flow to the muscles and one of the muscles on your body is, of course, your penis.

That is what L-Citrulline does, it aids in increasing the flow of blood around the body.

At present, there have been no recorded scientific trials that indicate that L-Citrulline does, in fact, increase the levels of testosterone of its participants, not even in rats!

Dosages Suggestions for L-Citrulline

For men who would like a ‘boosting’ daily supplement to help achieve harder erections then, using 0.5g – 1.5g of L-Citrulline may support a healthy sexual function in men.

Look for this ingredient in your testosterone boosting choice, or perhaps add this into your supplement regime.

Overall Assessment for L-Citrulline in Testosterone Boosters

There have been no absolute clinical trials that have proven that L-citrulline will raise testosterone levels in animals or humans.

However, there has been documented evidence that citrulline can help erectile function and penis structure in rats and improve any erectile issues in rats. If you’ve used this in a pre-workout supplement you may find that you notice getting random erections and feeling the blood flow over your body when using it.

We, therefore, cannot entirely recommend a testosterone booster that includes solely L-Citrulline as their primary ingredient. However, when used in conjunction with a known testosterone boosting ingredient, you may notice, as a positive side effect enhanced stronger erections.
